Gavin Blaauw - HEAD CHEF
Gavin was born in Upington, a small town located in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. He recalls that some of his favourite memories are of meals spent laughing and telling stories around the kitchen table. His passion for cooking developed at an early age thanks to actively observing his father's preparation of heirloom recipes passed on from one generation to another.
After concluding his culinary training at Northlink Hotel & Catering School in 2003, Gavin's professional career kicked off in the high paced environment of corporate catering. Dedication to progress his talents as a chef paid off as Gavin was awrded the regional Fedics Top Junior Chef Award in 2005.
Further sharpening his skills took place in the kitched of the Emirates Grand Hotel Group in Dubai, where Gavin was introduced to a standard of food preperation on par with world class establishments. After a three year period, he returned to the familiar shores of South Africa to take up the mantle of Head Chef at Shimmy Beach Club; a leading lifestyle venue in the V & A Waterfront, Cape Town.
Gavin's most recent home was the kitchen at the award-winning Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate. He has now moved to Ghana to further his passion for creativity with the culinary arts and the enthusiasm for tackling the challenges of launching a new, exciting brand.
